The Power of Shared Stories: Bringing Brianna Back to the Classroom!

Updated: Mar 31

Today, I had the joy of reading Brianna’s Brave Day at School in a truly special classroom, one filled with warmth, connection, and a beautiful full-circle moment.

The teacher, Mrs. Sherwood, is not only a dedicated educator but also a dear family friend. For years, she cared for our children as their sitter, pouring love into our family. One of her greatest dreams was to become a mother, and today, she and her husband have been blessed with two incredible children through adoption.

Their journey began in December 2020, when they became foster parents just before Christmas. A week later, they welcomed a baby girl into their home, finalizing her adoption two years later. Then, on Christmas Day in 2022, another call came, this time for a baby boy. They are now in the process of adopting him as well. For them, December has always been a season of joy, but now it holds an even deeper meaning, a reminder of love, family, and unexpected blessings.

I couldn’t be happier for Mrs. Sherwood and her husband as their dream of building a family has come true. Their story is one of love, patience, and the incredible journey of adoption, and I feel so grateful to witness it.

Being invited into her classroom to read Brianna’s Brave Day at School was more than just a storytime; it was an opportunity to spark the natural, informal adoption conversations I’ve always hoped this book would inspire.

We talked about what it means to be brave, not just in big moments, but in the small ones too. Bravery is sharing our stories, even when it feels hard, helping others understand our journey, and realizing that our voices can make a difference.

Sharing our stories has power. It builds connection, fosters understanding, and makes adoption a part of everyday conversations in the most natural and meaningful way.

📖 If you’re looking to bring Brianna’s Brave Day at School to young readers (Pre-K to 4th) let’s set up a reading! You can send me a message here.
